Tournament Preview - Wyndham Championship
Last regular season tournament of the year. Can Justin Thomas, Adam Scott, and Joel Dahmen finish well to make the FedEx Playoffs?
Tournament Preview - Wyndham Championship
Hello members,
The final tournament of the regular season commences tomorrow in Greensboro, NC at Sedgefield Country Club. The full purse is $7.6m with the winner’s share being $1.366m.
A few players need high finishes to make the FedEx playoffs, including Justin Thomas. JT needs a solo 18th finish or better to make it to next week. Adam Scott needs to finish in a three-way tie for 3rd or a top 9 finish. Joel Dahmen needs a top 9 finish, as well.
With so many players on the bubble, we’ll see who embraces the pressure this week!
BIG NEWS FROM EARLIER THIS WEEK - Tiger Woods was appointed as a PGA Tour Policy Board Member. The golf world is very happy about it, and he will no doubt bring a top player perspective to the Board. Full Washington Post article here.
LIV Golf moves to the Greenbriar this week.
Weather
A little rain and lower temperatures than the last few weeks here in North Carolina. Should be a long first two days and better luck on the weekend.
Where to Watch and Follow
ESPN+ coverage starts at 6:45am EST
Golf Channel starting at 2:00pm EST
Field
Pretty weak field, to be honest. Justin Thomas and Adam Scott are the headliners. Majority of the big names are taking this week (and last week) off to prepare for the FedEx playoffs.
Previous Winners in this week's field:
Jim Herman - 2020
J.T. Poston - 2019
Brandt Snedeker - 2018
Si Woo Kim - 2016
Notable previous winners absent:
Tom Kim - 2022
Kevin Kisner - 2021
Henrik Stenson - 2017 (LIV)
Davis Love III - 2015
Camilo Villegas - 2014
Patrick Reed - 2013 (LIV)

Some notable players to consider:
Sungjae Im - +2000 - last year was 2nd so has some good vibes for this year.
Sam Burns - +3000 - played solid this year and can end it on a good note.
Brendon Todd - +5500 - grew up in Raleigh just an hour or so away. Would be a good story for him.
Course Information
Sedgefield Country Club is a private club in Greensboro, NC designed by Donald Ross in 1925.
The club has hosted the Wyndham Championship since 2008 and typically 15-under or lower wins.
Sedgefield is owned by McConnell Golf. The group owns a bunch of clubs in the North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and South Carolina, like Korn Ferry Tour stops at Raleigh Country Club and Holston Hills Country Club, Donald Ross’ Asheville Country Club, and the Old North State Club. All very highly ranked clubs in their respective states.
Initiation fees are pretty reasonable for a highly ranked club like this. Initiation fees run between $10-25k and annual dues between $5-10k.
