Tournament Preview - Wells Fargo Championship
Another designated event on our hands this week. Can Rory McIlroy get back in the winner's circle? He's the Vegas favorite at +750.
Tournament Preview - Wells Fargo Championship
Hello members,
After a week of relaxing (I wish), One Putts is back for another designated event! Last week, Tony Finau took down the Mexico Open with Jon Rahm ending up in second.
Looking towards this week, the Wells Fargo Championship is hosted by Quail Hollow in Charlotte, NC. The elevated purse is $20m with the winner’s share being $3.6m. Most of the big names are back, like Rory who confirmed why he missed the RBC Heritage, with the exceptions of Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm, and Hideki Matsuyama.
Excited for the golf this weekend on a course that is known for being a top destination on Tour.
Weather
Unseasonably cool right now in North Carolina. No one is complaining though. With the exception of Saturday, it should be a very pleasant weekend for golf.
Where to Watch and Follow
ESPN Plus starting at 6:45am through 2:00pm EST
Golf Channel starting at 2:00pm through 6:00pm EST
Field
The full field was announced this weekend and can be found here. 156 players with a few big names missing. Since this is a designated event, players can miss one before consequences start. With the season being halfway through, it makes sense why some players would want to take a break.
Previous Winners in this week's field:
Max Homa - 2022, 2019
Rory McIlroy - 2021, 2015
Jason Day - 2018
Brian Harman - 2017
James Hahn - 2016
J.B. Holmes - 2014
Betting Odds
Betting Odds provided by Bovada.lv at this link (not sponsored)
Some notable players to consider:
Max Homa - +2200 - previous 2x winner
Cameron Young - +1600 - feels like he plays well in the biggest events and has to get his first win soon.
Corey Conners - +7000 - longer shot but deserves to be picked with his solid play this year so far
Course Information
Quail Hollow is a private club in Charlotte and pretty exclusive. Some notable members are David Tepper, Webb Simpson, Harold Varner III, and some other business leaders.
The club has hosted the PGA Championship in 2017 (and will again in 2025) and the President’s Cup last year in 2022.
Membership costs are reportedly $100,000 initiation and $800 in monthly dues.
The course is a Par 72 and around 7,600 yards long. The notable holes are 16 through 18 and known as “The Green Mile”.
😍 The only way to get a prettier view is being here in person. The sun is shining and the gates are open for today's practice round. #SeeYouThere#WellsFargoChampionship

Joe LaCava is on the bag for Patrick Cantlay at the Wells Fargo. Rumour has it that after seeing Patrick’s pre-shot routine, LaCava declined a base rate and negotiated an hourly based pay instead 🤣

My caddie mgr screamed at me yesterday "I needed you here two hours ago!"
I said "Rich, I was bringing a child into the world this morning".
He says "I'm sorry, I didn't know. Was it a boy or a girl?"
I said "ask me in about 9 months" 😆😆😎

Willie Mack III played 27 holes yesterday at the KFT event in Alabama. Jumped immediately in his car, drove six hours to the Wells Fargo Monday, arriving after midnight.
No practice round, shot 65, and will play for a $20 million purse this week. Now THAT is grinding.
