Tournament Roundup - U.S. Open

Wyndham Clark gets it done to win his first major! His second win of the year! He held off Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler, and Scottie Scheffler to take it home.

Tournament Roundup - U.S. Open

Hello members,

First, Happy Father’s day to all the dads out there. Nothing better than watching the U.S. Open finish up on Father’s Day.

The third major of the year is complete. LACC was interesting this week. Between the players disliking it, barely any spectators due to LACC members buying up tickets (supposedly), and the course initially looking too easy to be a U.S. Open venue, I truly wonder if this “elite and exclusive” membership will want to host again in 2039.

What a Sunday to finish it up though! The course played much harder today. Rickie Fowler and Wyndham Clark started the day tied at 10-under. Rory McIlroy was one stroke behind. Scottie Scheffler was three strokes behind. The leaderboard was stacked and could go any direction!

Rickie, unfortunately, had too many bogeys and couldn’t stay close. Scottie was somewhat similar. I swear if he could putt, he’d win all these by 5+ each week. Rory was fighting all day, but also just couldn’t really make anything. It was reminiscent of St. Andrews last year during the Open Championship, where he just didn’t win and hoped for the leader to stumble.

The leader never really stumbled. Wyndham Clark is the 2023 U.S. Open champion! It’s his first major, and he cashes the $3.6m paycheck. This is his second win of the year, after winning six weeks ago at the Well Fargo Championship.

Next week, we head to Connecticut for the Travelers Championship. Cheers, everyone.

Final Leaderboard and Payouts

Picks Recaps

  • Scottie Scheffler - +650 - another top 5. Seems he’s always up there.

  • Jon Rahm - +1100 - not his week. Ended up at 3-under for the tournament after a 65 today.

  • Tommy Fleetwood - +6000 - finally showed up today with a closing 63. He moved into a T5 finish.

  • Season Long Picks Update

    • After 23 tournaments picked in 2023, a $100 better for each of the weekly picks would be up $3,100.
