Saturday Night Recap - U.S. Open

Rickie Fowler and Wyndham Clark remain at the top at 10-under. Rory McIlory is one behind. Scottie Scheffler is three behind. Final round here we come!

Saturday Night Recap - U.S. Open

Hello members,

Moving day didn’t produce too much movement in the leaderboard. LACC is firming up a bit and drying out making scores a bit more U.S. Open like. The front nine seems super easy compared to the back nine. The front nine is playing almost two strokes easier than the back. Wouldn’t surprise me if someone goes low on the front tomorrow to move into the top 5 or so and then fade on the back nine.

Rickie Fowler continued his solid play and is tied for first place at 10-under after an Even par 70. He three-putted 18 for bogey to drop into a tie.

Wyndham Clark came out hot and had a couple stroke lead on the field until a few bogeys moved him back to be tied for first place with Rickie. He shot 70, also.

Rory McIlroy is in solo 3rd place after shooting 1-under 69 today and only one stroke back.

Scottie Scheffler had a highlight on the long Par 4 17th. He hole out for EAGLE from 196 yards out. It was great, as seen here. His last three were Bogey, Eagle, Birdie to be 7-under for the week and is solo 4th.

The lowest score carded today was 4-under by Tom Kim, which he started with a 6-under 29 on the front. Hideki Matsuyama, Padraig Harrington, and Patrick Cantlay shot 3-under.

A pretty cool hole today was the short Par 3 15th. It played 81 yards today sandwiched in between two bunkers and with a very firm green. It was the shortest hole in U.S. Open history.

More players are expressing their displeasure of LACC and this week. Viktor Hovland said "there’s not any great holes” and Matt Fitzpatrick said basically the atmosphere has been disappointing this week.
- Reminder - the USGA committed to LACC for this year and in 2039. I wonder if it will remain on the schedule and, if it does, what changes will be implemented.

Weather

Pretty much the same tomorrow as it was today. Mid 70s for the high, low 60s for the lows, and sun with some clouds.

Updated Betting Odds

My pre-tournament picks:

  • Scottie Scheffler - +500 - he’s within three of the lead and absolutely could take this thing down.

  • Jon Rahm - +250000 - Jon’s seemed frustrated this week. He’s 2-over for the tournament.

  • Tommy Fleetwood - +250000 - still 2-over for the tournament after an Even par 70 today.
