Another designated event this week. Will Xander Schauffele defend his title? Can Wyndham Clark go back-to-back?
Tournament Preview - Travelers Championship
Hello members,
Whew, back to the regularly scheduled program of the PGA Tour after a long and excited U.S. Open week. Interesting play here by the Tour management to have a designated / elevated event the week after a major, but here we are. We’re in Connecticut playing at the TPC River Highlands.
Defending champion Xander Schauffele is back to try to repeat. A win this week would be much sweeter than last year with the elevated purse of $20m and the winner’s share of $3.6m.
Rory McIlroy, Vegas favorite like usual Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm, Viktor Hovland, Justin Thomas, and Jordan Spieth are all playing, along with pretty much every other big name Tour player, so the week should include a stacked leaderboard.
Let’s tee off!
Weather
Rain is in the forecast with some storms so rounds could be delayed. Hopefully, The Weather Channel is wrong thought.
Where to Watch and Follow
ESPN+ coverage starting at 6:45am EST
Golf Channel coverage starting 3:00pm EST
Field
The full field can be found here. Designated event so all the big name PGA Tour players are playing for the $3.6m payday.

Betting Odds
Betting Odds provided by Bovada.lv at this link (not sponsored)
Some notable players to consider:
Scottie Scheffler - +700 - I know I know, I’m a broken record with picking him. He just hits the ball so well and is always in the top 10 so it’s hard to go against him.
Xander Schauffele - +1800 - think he goes back-to-back.
Justin Thomas - +6000 - he’s going to bounce back from his 81 last week, I just know it.
Course Information
TPC River Highlands is a private club in Cromwell, CT founded in 1928 originally as Middletown Golf Club.
In 1984, Pete Dye redesigned the course to become the TPC of Connecticut.
The course is one of the shorter courses on Tour at less than 7,000 yards.
Initiation fees run around $35,000 with monthly dues rumored at less than $500 per month. And, members get access to all of the TPC clubs.
Famous round at TPC River Highlands - Jim Furyk shot a 58 on this course in 2016 at this very same tournament. Can scores be that low again this week?
That fresh smell of summer.

Paddy Harrington on NLU pod is excellent.
“It wasn’t important to be a long hitter, bc at the end of the day, none of them were any good!”
That’s so so true. In college (‘03-‘07) we just didn’t care/talk about distance much. Paddy contends Rory changed the game in 2011. Right… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
