Friday Night Recap - THE PLAYERS Championship

Storms were the story today, with 71 players left to finish Round 2... a lot of golf to enjoy this weekend

Friday Night Recap - THE PLAYERS Championship

Storms came in this afternoon to shut the whole thing down. 71 players are left to finish their second round, so damn near half the field. Going to be a lot of golf tomorrow and Sunday for the players making the cut. The cut is currently projected at +1, but with so many players and holes left, who the hell knows. Slow play is still definitely a factor, as seen with four groups being backed up on a single hole. Yikes.

Christiaan Bezuidenhout is tied for the lead with Adam Svensson at 8-under. Both have some holes left in the second round so could extend their lead more. Bezuidenhout has a tragic story as a toddler and growing up. Know who I'm rooting for this weekend!

Jon Rahm withdrew due to some illness. Jordan Spieth sliced one into the crowd, when it should've gone in the water, to doink off a spectator and then made Eagle. Jordan offered the fan "whatever he wants" so a round at Augusta should be on the docket. Jordan Spieth doing Jordan Spieth things. Viktor Hovland is playing solid, and getting some lucky bounces. He's currently in T8 at 4-under. Keith Mitchell hit a terrible drive just before the horn went off to stop play and was a liiiiiiiitle pissed.

Should be a lot of golf tomorrow with the finishing of the second round and start of the third. Expecting the third (and potentially fourth) round to start on 1 and 10 and in threesomes to try to finish up this weekend.

Weather

Storms were obviously a factor today, but tomorrow and Sunday should be in the clear. Tomorrow a bit cooler and wet. Sunday temps more in line with the beginning of this week, mid-60s to mid-80s with sun and clouds and a slight chance of rain.

Updated Betting Odds

My pre-tournament picks:

  • Jon Rahm - W/D #sad 😢

  • Justin Thomas - may not make the cut but odds are currently +15000

  • Viktor Hovland - currently +1200
