Thursday Night Recap - PGA Championship

Hello members,

Round 1 was delayed for an hour 50 minutes due to frost this morning. The wind chill was 39 at 7am. 🥶 Golf got underway and, honestly, Oak Hill is playing more like a U.S. Open course than a PGA. Rough is thick, like Bryson thick from a few years ago, greens are fast, and wind was swirling a bit.

Eric Cole is the solo leader at 5-under. He has a few holes left to play and has been super impressive so far. He could finish even lower to extend his lead tomorrow morning.

Bryson DeChambeau is at 4-under after shooting 66 and solo 2nd. He, also, hit a tee shot to the 18th tee box to hit another player lol. Dustin Johnson and Corey Conners are T3 at 3-under. Scottie Scheffler is also T3 after a bogey-free 3-under 67. He also took foorrrreeeeevvverr to hit one shot, which apparently he didn’t know it was his turn, but still. Keegan Bradley shot a 2-under 68 but, man, it was up and down. His round included a double, seven birdies, and three bogeys. He said he’s “glad to be done” in his post round interview

Jon Rahm struggled today shooting a 6-over 76. He’ll need to turn it around tomorrow to make the cut. Not looking good for our bet on him this week.

Rory McIlroy shot a 1-over 71. There were some signs of life from him today but also just some signs of blah.

Brooks Koepka shot 2-over 72. Nothing special from him today, really. Wouldn’t surprise me if he comes out firing tomorrow though.

We’re scheduled to finish up Round 1 at 7:00am EST and then Round 2 to follow. Going to be a full day of golf tomorrow.

Weather

Weather tomorrow should be much better than today, although the wind may be more of a factor. Temperatures between 59 and 78.

My pre-tournament picks:

• Jon Rahm - +8000 - 6-over 76. Goal should be to just make the cut be within 8 or so for the lead to try to make it up over the weekend.

• Scottie Scheffler - +250 - 3-under 67 and looked real solid. Bogey free, which is always great to see.

• Tyrrell Hatton - +75000 - miserable round and 7-over 77.
