Tournament Preview - Genesis Scottish Open

Xander Schauffele is back to defend his title in Scotland. Rain, wind, and cooler temperatures are on the agenda, which is what you'd expect with golf in this part of the world.

Tournament Preview - Genesis Scottish Open

Hello members,

We move across the pond to Scotland for the Genesis Scottish Open at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick. This event is part of the Rolex Series, which contains the DP World Tour’s premier events. Majority of the big name Tour players are playing this week to prepare for the Open Championship next week. Xander Schauffele is back to defend his title and has pre-tournament odds of +1600.

In other golf news this week, the United States Senate subcommittee on investigations met with the PGA Tour COO, Ron Price, and merger banker Jimmy Dunne. Yasir and Monahan were invited but ended up not going. A good bit of information came out that I’ll summarize below:

  • My favorite theory is that Yasir Al-Rumayyan started LIV Golf to get membership into the R&A and Augusta National. Can’t say I blame him.

  • Greg Norman is almost certainly out if the merger completes.

  • Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy would own LIV Golf teams and play in 10 LIV events per year.

    • The full proposal for ”Best of Both Worlds” is found here.

  • The merger is very much still up in the air. Nothing is a done deal at this point.

  • Overall, the PGA Tour definitely wants to get this merger complete.

More information can be found in this Washington Post article and Barstool Sports recap.

Alright, time for some golf in Scotland!

Some notable players to consider:

  • Scottie Scheffler - +700 - I know I’m boring, but seriously, how can you bet against him at this point?

  • Tommy Fleetwood - +2000 - back in his area of the world and seems ready to take home the win.

  • Sahith Theegala - +8000 - hasn’t been too hot this year but turns it around this week.

  • Renaissance Club is a private club located about 20 miles east of Edinburgh right on the North Sea.
