Tournament Preview - The Genesis Invitational

Riv is ready, let's get it going!

Tournament Preview - The Genesis Invitational

What a week we have in store.  Tiger is back baby!  Full Swing dropped all 8 episodes on Netflix today (review of all episodes here).  And, we have another designated event with the top golfers on the PGA Tour and an elevated purse of $20m.  With these elevated purses, there's some "easy" ways to make a ton of money this year.

Jon Rahm is the pre-tournament favorite at +800.  Good reason too, since he's 90-under in his 20 rounds this year... sheesh. Rory McIlroy has odds of +850 and will be paired with Tiger Woods Thursday and Friday, along with Justin Thomas in the marquee featured pairing teeing off Thursday at 3:04pm EST and Friday at 10:24am EST.  Tiger teed off this morning early for the Pro-Am, and it seemed pretty dang cold.  Tiger's TGR Foundation is the host this week, as well.

Weather

This week, we are heading to the Los Angeles neighborhood of the Pacific Palisades.  Just north of Santa Monica, the weather should be pleasantly mild.  Mornings will be a bit chilly with it warming up mid-day / afternoon, but really shouldn't be too much of a factor.

Field

The full field includes 129 players with 23 of the top 25 OWGR players, the top 30 players in the FedEx standings, all 12 players that have already won this season, and Tiger making his first start since the 2022 Open Championship.

Tee times start at 6:40am PST / 9:40am EST.

  • Previous Winners in this week's field:

    • Max Homa - 2021

    • Adam Scott - 2020

    • J.B. Holmes - 2019

    • James Hahn - 2015

  • Notable previous winners absent:

    • Joaquin Niemann - 2022 (LIV)

    • Bubba Watson - 2018, 2016 (LIV)

    • Dustin Johnson - 2017 (LIV)
