Tournament Roundup - FedEx St. Jude Championship

Lucas Glover wins again! His putter stays hot to take home the title in back-to-back weeks. He had to fend off Patrick Cantlay in a playoff to get it done. Onto Illinois for the BMW Championship.

Tournament Roundup - FedEx St. Jude Championship

Hello members,

A hot, steamy day that ended up in a playoff. Before we get to that, the final round had some drama and big name players contending. At one point, Viktor Hovland, Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy, and Tommy Fleetwood all were within one or two of Lucas Glover. Patrick Cantlay fired a 6-under 64 to tie Glover at 15-under to force a playoff. Glover’s putter was clutch when needed, making long par and bogey putts to stay in the lead / stay tied. Glover had a 22 foot putt on 18 to win and it was dead in the heart but ended up a few inches short.

And, real quick - how they heck can Glover’s pants (and seemingly whole body) be soaked with sweat and yet his hands are miraculously dry?! See below for reference. The fact he doesn’t / has never used a golf glove in 90+ temps with “feels like” temperature being over 100 is wild to me. Anyways…

Onto the playoff between Patrick Cantlay and Lucas Glover. They go back to the dangerous 18th, with water lining the left and a big dogleg left. Cantlay’s drive finds the water to the left and Glover striped it down the middle. Glover hits first and finds the green to have a putt a little over 20 feet. Cantlay had 154 into the green to hit it right next to Glover and is juuuuust inside him, just enough to get a good read from Glover’s putt.

Onto the green, Glover hit it well but pulled it a bit and made par. Cantlay saw the line and needs to make the putt. He hit it well and as Jim Nantz said “singed the edge” for Lucas Glover to win!

Lucas wins in back-to-back weeks! He is now 5th in the FedEx Cup points race. His paycheck this week is $3.6m! What a great two weeks for him and really last month and a half! Can he take home three in a row next week?

Cam Smith won the LIV Bedminster event by seven strokes for his third LIV title.

Cheers, everyone. See you next week in Illinois for the BMW Championship with the Top 50 FedEx Cup point players.

Final Leaderboard and Payouts

Picks Recaps

  • Viktor Hovland - +1800 - 10-under and T13. Take away his 2-over round on Thursday, and Viktor is probably top 3.

  • Rickie Fowler - +3000 - 1-under and T58.

  • Tony Finau - +3500 - 2-over and 64th.

  • Season Long Picks Update

    • After 31 tournaments picked in 2023, a $100 better for each of the weekly picks would be up $2,800. Hoping to hop on the winner’s train next week in Illinois.
