Thursday Night Recap - FedEx St. Jude Championship

Hello members,

Jordan Spieth comes out firing with a 7-under 63 to take the solo lead. His odds have updated to +550 from +3500. Tom Kim is in solo second with a 6-under 64.

Not everyone played that well though… Jon Rahm struuuugggggllleeeddd with a 3-over 73. He’s currently fourth from last. Definitely didn’t expect that from him today. Justin Rose is DFL after shooting a 6-over 76. And, One Putts pick, Viktor Hovland, shot 2-over and is T59. Not looking good.

The biggest news of the day was around Phil Mickelson’s history of gambling. Whew. Basically, a book is coming out on August 23rd by Billy Walters, who was an associate of Phil’s. It’s essentially a look into the life of Phil and his gambling addiction over the years. Some initial highlights:

Phil has lost over $100m in his lifetime.
He allegedly bet on a Ryder Cup he was playing in…
Most bet single day was 43 bets on the MLB
In 2011, he averaged 9 bets per day
Gary McCord was giving him odds while commentating for CBS

Man, I can’t wait for this book release. Hopefully, the highlights mentioned weren’t the only stories in the book.

Of course, Phil released a statement denying that he bet on the Ryder Cup he was playing in and admitting to his gambling addiction. Also, Rory McIlroy had an incredible diss when asked about Phil’s betting… “at least he can bet on the Ryder Cup this year since he won’t be apart of it” 😳
