Tournament Roundup - Charles Schwab Challenge
Hello members,
Well, today is the last day we will see Colonial Country Club as it currently is. A decently big renovation by Gil Hanse and his team will begin tomorrow. This week, the course played as it typically does… windy with hard and fast greens. I don’t think those characteristics will be changing.
Adam Schenk (my guy) and Harry Hall started the day tied for the lead at 10-under. Hall started out with two birdies on his first two holes and was looking to run away with it. Schenk was steady-eddy with a one bogey and eight pars on the front. Two players were charging up the leaderboard… Scottie Scheffler and Emiliano Grillo. Scottie had some electricity on the front with an ACE on the Par 3 8th hole. If he could’ve putt this week, he would’ve won this thing. Grillo had a solid front 9 with a 2-under 33 and just needed some help from the leaders to keep moving up.
There was some drama on the 18th tee for Grillo, as he blew his drive way right and was in a viaduct floating away from the hole for seemingly forever. At the time, he had a two stroke lead and seemingly just needed a Par or Bogey to win. He had to drop from the water, with a penalty stroke, to hit off the concrete for his punch out. “Hard to replace that divot” says Jim Nantz. He ended up with a double bogey to drop into a tie with Schenk and Hall, but the problem for Grillo is Schenk and Hall still had 18 to play.
Hall hit his drive into the water left. Schenk is on the left side of the fairway. Schenk hit his approach to less than 20 feet. Hall hit his to around 25 feet, where he eventually missed his putt, made a bogey, and ended up tied with Scheffler at 7-under. Schenk left his putt short to make it into a playoff with Grillo.
In the playoff, Schenk vs Grillo, on the first hole, both players barely missed birdie putts on the first hole. Grillo got the best member’s bounce ever to end up less than 6 feet away. Schenk nuked his tee shot over the green and basically had to make his pitch to keep the playoff going. He pitched it to a few feet to almost guarantee his par. Problem is Grillo had a short putt for birdie, and he made it!
Emiliano Grillo takes home his second PGA Tour win and first since 2016, which was his first ever Tour event. His paycheck is $1.566m. What a finish!
Next week, we move to Ohio for The Memorial Tournament at Murfield.
2,779 days since his last win on TOUR 🏆

Final Leaderboard and Payouts
Picks Recaps
Scottie Scheffler - +450 - 7-under for the finish, but at times today looked like he was going to come from behind to take it down. Just couldn’t make the putts when he needed. A top 3 finish nonetheless.
Sam Burns - +2500 - ended up 5-under for the tournament and T9. Couldn’t repeat but a solid top 10 finish.
Kurt Kitayama - +6000 - Even par for the week and T29.
Season Long Picks Update
After 20 tournaments in 2023, a $100 better for each of the weekly picks would be up $2,700.

Twitter Roundup
Emiliano Grillo just invited two kids onto the first tee at Colonial to take some swings with his clubs as he preps for a playoff 10 minutes after making a double by hitting a ball in a sewer. I am in love with this sport.

Serious story developing at LIV DC as Andy Ogletree is just 1 back with 9 to play.
Just under a year ago, Andy had no status on any tour, so he played LIV London. He came last and copped loads of stick. Since then, he’s recovered from injury, won twice on the Asian Tour and… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
